Historical Society Offers Free Heritage Walking Tour
The Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society will be at the August Millbrook Farmers’ Market on Sunday, August 25 with some of the “tools of our trade” so that the public, and especially our newer residents, can get a sense of what the Historical Society does in our community.
Following August’s Sunday Market, at 1pm, representatives from the Historical Society will lead a free walking tour from the Old Millbrook School parking lot. The walk will take approximately 1.5 hours and will cover a portion of Millbrook. The purpose is to give our newer residents an opportunity to learn a little about the history of the area, and highlight some of the major personalities and events that shaped the village and surrounding communities.
We look forward to launching our series of monthly gatherings this fall that will focus on issues and elements of historical interest both locally and in a broader sense. Suggestions for topics or speakers are always welcome.
The Historical Society is a non-profit organization and affiliated member of the Ontario Historical Society, with a mandate to bring together individuals interested in the diverse historical aspects of Cavan Monaghan and to research, record, retain, preserve and present historical information pertaining to the area. We are grateful to the Millbrook Branch of Cavan Monaghan Libraries for housing our heritage display case, curated by Peter Ramsay.
We are also grateful for the support of our members! It is with your generous support that we are able to preserve artifacts and records of local interest and host some outstanding speakers at our gatherings. Our membership year begins September 1, so we encourage those who have not already renewed or joined to sign up at our table on August 25 at the Market. Single Membership for one year is $15; a family membership is $25.
