Event: The 70s and 80s in Millbrook
Throughout the one and a half hour recording participants tell their stories from the 70s and 80s in Millbrook.
Stories include frontier days at the saddle shop when the street was set up like an old jail and saloon, and Miss frontier days contests were held.
One participant recalls at time when the Catholic Church asked if they could use the Legion on Sunday mornings for their services. It was brought to a vote with the Legion membership to allow this and they said yes. Catholics and Protestants all fought together in the wars.
Another participant recalls halloween nights in the legion building. The town during that time was an older demographic and the older townspeople didn’t want kids trick or treating. So instead the shops in town created games for the children and they’d win candy, get prizes for costumes, and more. It always seemed to be the same kids that got prizes!
One participant reminisced about egg throwing around 1986 or 1987. Police would stop the kids and “frisk them” looking for eggs (the kids would of course have eggs in their pockets). Finally eggs got banned in Millbrook after the town had to bring in trucks to wash the streets.
More memories include the old blacksmith shop, the Voyageur Canoe company, trying to save the Millbrook School, White Rock, and more!
